The works comprised the extension and refurbishment of Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Salisbury to provide extended leisure and changing facilities together with the construction of a wide ranging community hub, including
• Community activity rooms
• Citizens advice offices
• Disability day centre
• Meeting and interview rooms
• Facilities for Police, Wiltshire Council & partners office
• Larger café
• Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Headquarters
Delivered in phases we had to carry out demolition of parts of the building, which included complex temporary works and careful integration with the general public as the centre had to remain fully operational at all times.
The construction of the 2-storey extension is on an old landfill site and as we were surrounded by the river Avon we had to take special measures to ensure we did not affect this water course. Other phases of the works included multi-purpose activity spaces, new gym extension, changing rooms, new dance studio, creation of a new main entrance and reception area, conversion of conference rooms into changing rooms and the refurbishment of sports hall roof and floor.
The final phase of the works was to re model the external areas around the centre creating additional car parking and multi use external games area.
All phases of the works involved working in very close proximity to the general public both internally and externally, so ensuring their safety was of paramount importance involving detailed and diligent planning, none more so than the material delivery management, the timing of which was critical.
